2 Indiana homes raided; drugs and guns found

The war on drugs is something that police departments around the country have waged. Indianapolis is no exception to this. Recently, the Metropolitan Drug Task Force threw a wrench in the drug operations for one man suspected of distributing cocaine and marijuana.

The 37-year-old man was indicted in the U.S. District Court for possession of a firearm as a previously convicted felon and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine.

The task force acted on a confidential tip about the alleged trafficker. The man had two addresses, both of which were searched after officers obtained a search warrant.

There were 46 mature marijuana plants found in one house. Two pounds of marijuana were found in that home and around 40 pounds of packaged marijuana was found in a gun safe in the garage. At the other home, officers found cocaine residue, eight guns, $310,000 in cash and two digital scales.

Upon completing those searches, officers determined that another address needed to be searched. A warrant was obtained to search three storage units that the defendant has rented since 2014 for one and 2016 for two.

That search turned up $72,666, more than 10,000 grams of marijuana, bags of cocaine totaling 1,400 grams and a brick of cocaine that weighed more than 1,000 grams. A search of a vehicle landed police another 279 grams of cocaine and 1,000 grams of marijuana.

This isn’t the man’s first drug charge. His current charges are federal charges. All told, he is accused of having 46 mature marijuana plants, $1.3 million of processed marijuana and $77,000 of cocaine.

This defendant, just like anyone facing criminal charges, has the right to present a defense. Carefully considering the defense plans available is crucial in serious drug cases.
